【今回の展示について】
この度Alt Space POSTでは、マーク・プライアー展「Distillations」を開催いたします。
マーク・プライアーは、1971年ドイツ、フランクフルト生まれ。現在ベルリンを拠点に活動する写真家です。
これまでプライアーはベルリンと京都を拠点にオーストリアやシンガポール、イスラエルなど、さまざまな国を取材し、その都市に介在する人の営みや街並みを独特な視点で写真に収めてきました。
「Distillations」では、国や文化によって異なる風俗や建築物など、都市がゆるやかに蒸留してきた時間の痕跡「Urban Distillations」に着目し、抽象性を感じさせる作品に挑戦しています。
是非、短い期間ですが、作品を見ていただけたらと思います。

*Distillations （蒸留、じょうりゅう）とは、混合物を一度蒸発させ、後で再び凝縮させることで、沸点の異なる成分を 分離・濃縮する操作をいう。

Distillations
“Distillation is the process of separating the components or substances from a mixture to increase the concentration of selected components in the mixture. Distillation often involves multiple repetitive steps to remove impurities.”
True to the title of this exhibition, the artist’s preferred method of locating motifs involves repeated strolls in familiar territory – mostly urban residential areas. This is intended to serve as a “visual cleansing” process that gradually removes distracting visual layers until the final, distilled subject emerges.
Natural processes, too, play an important role in most of the exhibited works: Chemical, physical and thermal processes – such as oxidation, abrasion and the effects of heat and cold – gradually alter the surface and texture of objects, exposing naturally distilled patterns.
This exhibition showcases works that were created as part of the artist’s ongoing quest for unearthing the beauty of ordinary things in their common habitat.
